The Architekturgalerie München is dedicating a solo exhibition to the profession of structural engineering and the mostly invisible forces at work behind the facades. For almost a quarter of a century, the engineers Thomas Beck, Christian von Kameke and Thomas Hintermann have been advising Munich architects. They plan, design, calculate the static inner life of buildings, residential buildings, mobile constructions and, as a special field of their work, the constructions of large-scale works of art in public spaces.

a.k.a. engineers specialise both in finding solutions to weighty architectural problems and in inventing concepts for the lightness of wood, steel, stone, for buildings that somewhat seem to float and appear to defy the laws of gravity. A steamboat on a railway bridge six metres above street level, a casually purist footbridge at Munich's Marienhof, a cube-shaped rucksack house docking on the outer façade of multi-storey buildings. To name just a few of their current 1364 projects.

The exhibition is open for events, guided tours and every Wednesday from 4-6 pm.
