We warmly invite you to the opening of the SOM+Art exhibition on Wednesday 30 September at 7.00 pm.
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, one of the world’s leading architecture, engineering, and urban planning firms, is celebrating its 90th anniversary with the exhibition SOM+Art at Architekturgalerie Mu?nchen. For more than five decades, SOM has collaborated with numerous artists, including Alexander Calder, Joan Miró, Harry Bertoia, Isamu Noguchi, Henry Moore, Sol LeWitt, James Turrell, Jenny Holzer, Richard Serra, Yayoi Kusama, and Maurizio Cattelan. These collaborations open up new perspectives and create spatial experiences in which artistic ideas are translated into built form. Artists introduce unexpected impulses that challenge thinking about structure, function, and form. As SOM has continually redefined the boundaries of what is possible in architecture, this collaboration goes beyond the realization of artistic concepts and develops them further through the process of making. The exhibition presents selected projects, including works by Pablo Picasso, Jaume Plensa, and Janet Echelman, highlighting the interplay between art, architecture and engineering.
