Valentien + Valentien was among the first German landscape architecture and urban planning practices to work continuously in China. The exhibition presents projects spanning almost a quarter-century of work in the country and offers insights into the firm’s design approaches and planning methods.
Parks, gardens, urban developments and large-scale regional plans illustrate the particular role of landscape and open space in China’s far-reaching urban transformation. The projects on display include the visionary design for the extensive Chenshan Botanical Garden in Shanghai.
The exhibition is accompanied by the presentation of the publication “Freiräume / Open Spaces in China 1998–2022”. In conversation with Regine Keller and Jörn Walter, Donata Valentien and Dayana Valentien will reflect on 24 years of planning practice in China and on the profound changes in planning culture, cities and landscapes.
Valentien + Valentien is an internationally active landscape architecture and urban planning practice based in Weßling near Munich. Its work encompasses ecological, landscape planning and urban design studies, competitions, and projects ranging from initial design through to implementation, both in Germany and internationally. The practice was founded in Stuttgart in 1971 by Donata and Christoph Valentien.
