This exhibition chronicles projects from the last ten years of work by leading British practice Hopkins Architects. Founded in 1976, the firm has won most major architectural awards and is known for designing sensitive, sustainable buildings, which reinterpret context and history. These buildings thoughtfully engage with their surroundings and strive to create a sense of place. Their architectural expression is frequently inspired by local materials, which are then highly engineered and reinterpreted in a contemporary manner.

The timeline featured in the exhibition gives an overview of Hopkins’ completed projects and shows the development of the firm's unique architecture over time. The selected projects demonstrate how these buildings are able to respond to the changing needs of clients and contemporary architecture, whilst remaining true to Hopkins' guiding design principles.

The firm’s iconic Mound Stand at Lord’s Cricket Ground made headlines in the 1980s with its elegant steel superstructure and flamboyant fabric canopy contrasting with the historic brick arches supporting stadium structure. This was followed by such critically-acclaimed projects as the Schlumberger Research Centre in Cambridge, Glyndebourne Opera House and the New Parliamentary Building next to the Houses of Parliament in London.

The twenty-first century saw the firm’s work stretch beyond the United Kingdom to locations including India, Greece, Cyprus, United Arab Emirates, Japan and the United States. Many of these recent projects are featured in the exhibition, including Shin-Marunouchi Tower in Tokyo, Gate Village in Dubai, the LEED–Platinum rated Kroon Hall for the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies at Yale University, Frick Chemistry Laboratory at Princeton University. It also includes important recent work in the United Kingdom and culminates with the distinctive London 2012 Velodrome, which will be in use at the Olympic and Paralympic Games during the exhibition.
